Dr. John Ratey
What?
Dr. Ratey is researching how exercise can improve the effectiveness of the brain. He says a"Moving brain is a thinking brain." By exercising we are doing what our body naturally wants to do. It helps us focus and improves our mood and productivity, it decreases our tension and fatigue. Being active helps to fight the obesity problem.
So What?
Being active can help students focus better. Exercise helps our students learn better and stay healthier. It makes learning more fun, and enjoyable. Exercise give more blood to the brain so it can be effective. By moving around while learning it help students remember better because the brain codes that information in more than just one way. By exercising over a long time it prepares the brain in a way that it will be able to make more brain cells quicker.
Now What?
By knowing this I can try to incorporate it in the classroom by giving breaks, that the students can use to move around and get the blood flowing instead of just sitting for hours on end all through the day. By doing hands on activities in the classroom you will be able to have to the students play a more active role in learning. You can have the students to their homework while doing exercise like running or walking. Or have them do the exercise before they do their homework since it still helps the brain for a few hours after the exercise is over. By getting your students to be healthy you get them to be better prepared to learn.

Educational Research
What they are!
Descriptive research is an observational type of research that is the easiest type of research. It describes what is happening. Correlational tells us how much one thing happens when another happens. Experimental you change something to see how much that one thing effects the results. Action research you do the research yourself dealing with a problem that effects you or your school.
So What!
The reasons we are studying these different types of research is so we know which types are the best to use in different circumstances. We have to know what each type of research can validly prove or not prove so we don't just read an article and do what it says because the research might not really prove their conclusion.
Now What!
Even though we have learned some of the basics about educational research it is something that we will continue to have to use throughout our careers. We can use others research to help improve the way we are teaching or can see the things that are effective that we could try to use to help our students to learn more and retain it better.
